Educating Youth on E-waste: GGAF Thematic Workshop

On 18 June, MM Century proudly took part in the GGAF Thematic Workshop on E-Waste Education, a collaborative initiative between GGAF, Eco-Schools Malaysia, and Public Bank. Themed around responsible e-waste management, the workshop aimed to provide students with both knowledge and hands-on exposure to the growing realities of electronic waste.

Tackling The Problem at Any Stage

Our team was honoured to lead a session combining both theoretical and practical learning. We kicked things off with a brief presentation on proper e-waste handling and segregation, followed by a dynamic hands-on segment where students dismantled end-of-life electronics to explore their components.

What surprised us was the level of curiosity and engagement. These students didn’t just stop at separating the external casing; they eagerly dove into internal components, asking questions, categorising parts, and discovering the layers of complexity hidden in everyday devices.

Sustainable Is Not Just A Goal, Its A Mission

With around 40 Form 4 and Form 5 students participating, many of whom are actively involved in their school’s Eco-School project, the energy in the room was unmistakable. It was clear that sustainability isn’t just a topic to them, it’s a mission they’re already embracing.

From a corporate standpoint, the experience reaffirmed something important: awareness alone isn’t enough. We need early, ongoing education to tackle the e-waste challenge at its roots. It’s no longer about simply managing the issue, but about instilling the right mindset from the start.

In a world where electronics are replaced faster than ever, educating the next generation is no longer optional. It’s vital—not just to protect the planet, but to ensure we can continue building and innovating sustainably.
